About Santa Rita Fire District
The Santa Rita Fire District (SRFD) is an all-hazards fire department nestled in the base of the beautiful Santa Rita Mountains protecting the Town of Sahuarita and the community of Green Valley. Originally founded in 1975 as the Green Valley Fire District, the small department protected the retirement community of Green Valley. With the incorporation of the Town of Sahuarita, the Green Valley Fire District grew to protect a much larger area than just Green Valley. Following the annexation of a large portion of the Town of Sahuarita, the Green Valley Fire District elected to change its name to the Santa Rita Fire District to reflect the broader communities it serves.
Today the Santa Rita Fire District covers an area spanning 55 square miles and provides fire, emergency, and non-emergency services to more than 55,000 constituents. The District is governed by five publicly elected officials and operates out of 5 fire stations covering both residential and commercial areas.
Pest removal, smoke detector checks, educational programs for adults and children, the Fire Corps program, CERT training, and participation in local community events are all part of the Districts significant non-emergency role in the community.
