Kari Hackney is the Director of Habitat Stewardship for the Tucson Bird Alliance. She holds her M.S. in Parks and Resource Management, with a B.S. in Biology. She leads the organization’s efforts in habitat restoration, which has both a wildlands and urban focus. As a licensed contractor, she has led habitat installations in residential and community settings. In her presentation, she will detail how to create wildlife habitat in your yard through TBA’s Habitat at Home program. You will learn the basic components of residential habitat and be guided through how to select plants to meet your habitat goals, construct DIY water features, explore options for rainwater harvesting, nestbox selection, and best practices for habitat management.

Celebrate Saint Patrick's Day by joining public historian Alex La Pierre for a compelling presentation that explores the dramatic story of the Batallón de San Patricio- a group of mostly Irish immigrants who fought alongside Mexico during the U.S.-Mexican War of 1846-1848.

This engaging talk examines the battalion's complex motivations, moral convictions, and enduring legacy as a symbol of cross-cultural solidarity and resistance in the shared history of the borderlands.

Jack's back! Join us as we welcome Jack Lasseter, well known local orator and historian, as he highlights what to look for as the desert emerges from its winter sleep. The Sonoran Desert, here in southern Arizona, is a special place, unique in the world, but in the Spring when it comes alive with new growth, flowers, fruit, and that brilliant display of colors, it is even more magical and unforgettable. It is truly a time to be out in the desert. You will hear about flowers, fruit, cactus, local birds and other desert animals; and most importantly you will develop a new appreciation for the desert and the natural world surrounding it.
