Anyone touched by cancer is invited to the Green Valley/Sahuarita American Cancer Society Relay For Life event which will take place on April 1st at Rancho Resort Park, 15900 S Rancho Resort Blvd in Sahuarita from 11:am to 9:00 pm. At 11:00 am all cancer survivors and caregivers will be honored during a short walk along the path while other participants cheer and clap in their honor. (Standing, sitting, and wheelchair rides are ok, too.) The survivors and caregivers are then treated to a noon special social time and survivors receive a Survivor Medal.
Cancer survivors need to register early to receive a Survivor shirt and be counted to participate in the noon social. Register early online at www.relayforlife.org/gvsahuaritaaz, or at the event from 10:30 am to 8:00 pm. Teams are now forming; survivors and caregivers are being counted and donations are needed to help the American Cancer Society to fund research grants to the University of Arizona cancer researchers.
Individuals on Relay For Life teams will walk on the sidewalk throughout the day from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm representing the fact that cancer does not sleep. Special laps take place during the day representing different cancers such as the umbrella walk for melanoma, the decorated bra lap for breast cancer.
Food trucks, music and entertainment will be provided. Local school groups will perform; games and raffle prizes will make the day a celebration of More Cancer Survivor Birthdays and special memories of those who lost their cancer battle. Around 8:00 pm the lights will be turned down low and named luminaria bags lit with glow sticks will be lining the path. Participants holding light sticks will walk this path listening to the names read out loud of survivors and those who lost their cancer battle. The Relay event is an annual event and is open to all who have been touched by cancer. Friends, relatives and loved ones are welcome.
Go to www.relayforlife.org/gvsahuaritaaz and sign up as a survivor or participant. Go to this same site to join a team, start a team and/or donate. Become a sponsor and have a sign posted at this event in honor or in memory of someone who lost their cancer battle.
